Since 2020, Fairfield County Fishing Camp has been introducing kids to the sport of fishing right here on the Long Island Sound. We're a locally run camp with one goal: to teach young anglers real skills, build confidence on the water, and give them an experience they'll never forget. RYAN LEAVAY

My name is Ryan, and I have lived in Fairfield since I was 5 years old. I graduated from Sherman Elementary with Matt, as well as Ludlowe Middle school and Ludlowe High school. I am currently a Junior at Texas Christian University studying Finance and Accounting. My passion is not only fishing, but to pass it on to others who are also interested in fishing. Growing up teaching myself how to fish, my goal is to be a teacher for others.

MATTHEW MENOZZI

What’s up! My name is Matt, and I have lived in Fairfield my whole life. I went to Sherman, Ludlowe Middle school, and Ludlowe High school with Ryan. Now, I am a Junior at Sacred Heart University. I grew up fishing the Long Island Sound and spend most of my free time fishing. My goal is to pass on my knowledge to a new generation of future fisherman.

JOHN MCCLOSKEY

Hi! I’m John and I moved to Fairfield in middle school. I went to Ludlowe Middle school and Fairfield Prep, and am now a Junior at Furman University. Soon after my arrival in Fairfield, I was introduced to fishing, and I was immediately hooked. It wasn’t too long until my garage was filled with fishing equipment. I enjoy teaching the younger generation similar skills that I learned when I first started fishing

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • We only operate from shore. None of our fishing is done from a boat.

  • We will contact you in advance (usually the Friday the week before camp) to confirm locations and other relevant details. All locations are in the town you sign up for.

  • No, you do not. We provide all fishing gear, including rods, reels, bait, tackle, and anything else necessary. However, if your child wants to learn how to use their own gear, by all means, please bring it. This way, the counselors can help teach them how to use it properly.

  • Nothing is required, however, we recommend a snack/lunch, water, sunscreen, and anything else necessary to stay cool and hydrated. It can get hot on some days, and we want all campers feeling good and ready to fish!

  • We keep the groups to a relatively small size of 8-10 each. We will have 2-3 counselors per group depending on size to ensure each camper is getting the best experience!

  • We do not offer a traditional “full-day” camp. There is a one-hour break between the morning and afternoon sessions, during which counselors leave the fishing location for lunch and often relocate to a different spot for the afternoon due to changes in tides. For this reason, we generally do not recommend signing up for both sessions in the same week—campers would need to be picked up at 12:00 PM and dropped off again at 1:00 PM, potentially at a new location. Additionally, spending the entire day fishing in the heat can be physically tiring. That said, if you are comfortable with the logistics and feel your child is up for it, participating in both sessions is certainly possible.
